Louise S. McGehee School
The Past, The Present,
The Promise
New Orleans, Louisiana

Miss McGehee founded the school with a purpose in mind in regard to the place of women in our society at this time. Many girls’ schools were founded in the period from the 1880s to the 1920s, but McGehee’s was one of the few girls’ schools that answered the need of Newcomb College and the like, an all-girls’ school that was more than a finishing school, a school that offered academic rigor commensurate with the education offered to young men. McGehee’s is also one of the few independent, nonsectarian girls’ schools in this country to remain in operation and true to its original mission.

  • The books have arrived and they are beautiful! Our librarian who is also the archivist is wow-ed by the clarity of the photos and keeps saying that the photos in the book are better than the original photos she has in the archives. Thank you. It has been a pleasure working with you and I was able to sleep at night because I knew we would produce an excellent product working with you.
