At midnight on January 1, 1851, six Dominican Sisters from Kentucky arrived in Memphis at the door of St. Peter Catholic Church, having been invited to Tennessee to start a school for girls. Pillars of Memphis is the story of Dominican Sisters, Brothers and Priests, lay faculty, staff, parents and volunteers who have dedicated themselves for more than 160 years to providing girls and boys an excellent education within a Catholic environment.
This book chronicles the journey from a small school for girls in downtown Memphis to a state-of-the-art school situated on 20-acres, boasting single gender classes on a co-ed campus for more than 900 students.
